Senarathne stated that he informed the Chief Prelates of the Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha of the development.The Department of Prisons also confirmed receiving notification from the court that Gnanasara Thera’s attendance is not required today.The case, concerning an alleged derogatory statement regarding Islam made by Gnanasara Thera, comes up for hearing before the Colombo High Court today.Last Tuesday, Buddhasasana Minister Hiniduma Sunil Senevi stated that measures would be taken to restore Gnanasara Thera’s robe on the upcoming court date.Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal yesterday scheduled petitions challenging the prison authorities’ decision to remove Gnanasara Thera’s robe for consideration on the 18th of next month.The petitions seek a court order declaring the decision null and void.In a related development, police officers arriving at Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo last night instructed monks participating in a satyagraha demanding Gnanasara Thera’s release to vacate the premises.The directive followed a court order obtained by the Cinnamon Gardens Police.The satyagraha, organised by a collective including Buddhist monks, entered its eighth day today.Meanwhile, the Janavarame Purawasiyo movement staged a protest in Kandy yesterday, urging the government to enforce the law impartially and resist external influence.Following the demonstration, a delegation met the Chief Prelates of the Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters.
