A low-pressure area developed from the lower atmospheric disturbance near Sri Lanka, according to a statement issued by the Department of Meteorology. Showers across the island as well as deep and shallow sea areas around the country are expected to intensify today due to the influence of this system. The public, including fishing and naval communities, are requested to remain attentive to upcoming forecasts and notices issued by the Department of Meteorology.Cloudy skies will prevail with rainy or thundershowers occurring at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northern, North Western, and Southern provinces, as well as in the Mannar district. Showers or thundershowers may occur after 1:00 p.m. in other areas of the island. Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is expected in certain places within the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and North Western provinces. The department urges the public to take necessary precautions to minimize risks from temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. Misty conditions may prevail in some areas of the Central and Uva provinces during the early morning.
