Former police constable Susantha Hettiarachchi of the Sooriyakanda police was released by the Embilipitiya Magistrate's Court today (02) in connection with a case concerning a cannabis plantation raid on land reportedly belonging to a relative of Ratnapura District National People's Power Parliamentarian Shantha Pathma Kumara.The court issued the order to discharge the suspect under Section 123 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, based on a complaint submitted by the Embilipitiya Division Special Crime Investigation Unit.This decision came as the court had ordered charges to be filed regarding the incident today (02).The Embilipitiya Division Special Crime Investigation Unit had presented facts to the court against the suspect on three charges, including unlawful obstruction of the land in question, criminal force, and criminal intimidation.Attorney-at-Law Punchihewa appeared and made submissions on behalf of the suspect.
